Despite all the resonant international political declarations and agreements, the functioning of the civilised world shows signs of collapse. Politicians only heed the word of science when they want to, or when absolutely necessary, and the finiteness of critical resources is not taken into account by any single grand plan aimed at transforming the functioning of society and the economy. Meanwhile, natural processes have permanently slipped out of humanity's control, where of course they never were, however much we like to believe it.
