In history, we find geographical phenomena and places that boast rich cultural traditions and inspiration. We call them memory sites. Lake Balaton is one such place. The lake is not only a venue for summer recreation, water sports, and cultural events, but it also plays a significant role in German-Hungarian literary and cultural relations. In this presentation, we will explore, based on contemporary literary texts and films, what role this geographical and cultural space played in the history of divided Germany.
